Hope and Healing for Mothers with Aching Arms

Mother’s Day can hit hard.

There’s so much joy around us–because motherhood is a beautiful thing–but it can feel like a painful celebration of the very thing we’ve lost or of the baby we never think we’ll hold.

It’s easy to feel invisible.

This post is for the mamas spending Mother’s Day with aching arms. My husband and I would be welcoming another baby into the world in July. I wrote this poem to remind myself that God’s arms are never empty, and that we can come to Him and “He will give [us] rest.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

A poem titled 'For the Mama...', featuring floral decorations and a cross, reflecting themes of loss, hope, and faith.

Though my heart is breaking this Mother’s Day, the spring reminds me of God’s promise to “make all things new.” (Revelation 21:5)

Here are a few Bible verses that have given me so much comfort in this hard season:

  • “My heart and my flesh may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26)
  • “He will tend His flock like a Shepherd; He will gather the lambs in His arms; He will carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young.” (Isaiah 40:11)
  • “The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.” (Isaiah 11:6)

So, Mama, on this Mother’s Day, know that you are loved and that you are not alone.

Sincerely,

Christa
