Two of my core childhood memories involve Elvis.
1. My mom and I dancing like crazy to “Hound Dog” in my grandparents’ living room.
2. Sneaking that gold cd into my parents’ portable cd player and clicking until I heard an accordion. (Wooden Heart is still my favorite!)

A couple decades later, I’m still crazy about Elvis music. For Valentine’s Day Josh took me to see “Elvis” at the Holland Center. Pat Dunn (Elvis) was spot on–we couldn’t believe it (You gotta see him if you can!).
This May, we’re planning a trip to Graceland…with our toddler… but I’m so pumped!
Have you been to Graceland?
Any travel tips or recommendations?
As an avid reader and musician myself, I’m fascinated by the lives of famous singers. In fact, that was my ultimate “dream career” as a 10-year-old.
But I’ll never forget my first class in Music School when my theory teacher asked us “why we were here.”
“If you’re here because you want to make a lot of money or because you want to be famous…you should probably leave now and save time.” (Paraphrased LOL)
Thankfully, my love of music had grown stronger than just dreams of fame by that point, and I stuck around!

But then there is Elvis Presley. A poor boy from Tupelo who followed his dream and became one of the most famous musicians in the world.
I think that’s why I enjoy reading biographies on famous musicians! They give us “mortal” musicians that spark of inspiration to keep going, ha!
Speaking of biographies: here are the two most recent “Presley” autobiographies to hit the market:

An interesting look at how Priscilla navigated life after being in the spotlight, from raising her children to pursuing an acting career and beyond. I came away having a lot of respect for her tenacity.

A tear-jerking memoir and a very heavy read. Published by Riley after her mother’s unexpected death. Definitely a book to pace yourself through.
I’d love to hear from you!
